Frances Ellis - Class of 1997
Say hello to Frances, one of North Hertfordshire College’s alumni from the class of 1997.
Frances studied her A Levels in Psychology, English Literature, and Communication Studies from 1995 to 1997, and has since gone on to have an amazing career that’s taken her across multiple industries – and even to Dubai!

What are your memories of North Hertfordshire College?
“It was a lovely environment with nurturing teachers, perfect for developing the foundations to launch your career.”
What did you go on to do after North Hertfordshire College?
“After college, I studied a degree at university and explored various careers. Initially, I delved into the world of public relations, honing my skills in writing press releases, event coordination, and client management. I took a year out to travel before then transitioning into working in recruitment. This was a dynamic and high-pressure sales role that I thrived in, with my performance receiving company recognition.
“This path then led me to Dubai, where I pursued a long-standing aspiration of becoming a personal trainer, using my passion for health and fitness. I wanted to develop myself further, so I became a certified Nutrition Coach and Eating Psychology Coach.
“With a skill set covering marketing, sales, personal training, nutrition, communication, and psychology, I launched my own online business which I’ve now been running for 16 years.”
What topics and skills from your time in college do you still use today?
“My study in Psychology and Communication Studies are at the very foundation of what I do on a daily basis. Ultimately, without the confidence that I gained during the years at NHC, I would never have achieved any of it.
“The College also ignited my passion for psychology and unravelling the mysteries of the human mind. I now use my knowledge of psychology in my professional journey on a daily basis.
“Beyond psychology, I also developed my confidence at NHC. I’ve gone from conquering frequent presentations in my Psychology and Communication Studies classes in college to now leading conferences and creating my own online courses and masterclasses.
“I’ve even gone on to grow my own business as a result of the confidence I built at 16, and I truly love what I do.”
