Katie Fraser – Class of 2003

Katie worked hard throughout her time at college and has since started working as a Relaxed Show Volunteer and Community Champion and the Birmingham Hippodrome!

We caught up with Katie to find out more about her memories of NHC:

How did NHC support you in preparing for your current
role?

“Through the courses I studied, I learned about the world of
work and how to live independently.

“I lived at Briar Patch in Letchworth while studying at NHC.
It was set up by the College to provide some of their SEND students an opportunity to learn independent living skills in a supportive environment. I now live in a house of my own and I’m enjoying the independence, thanks to my time at college.”

What takeaways from NHC do you use in your professional
and/or personal life?

“The independence I gained is really important to me; it has
helped me to live a fulfilling life.”

What’s your favourite memory of your time at NHC?

“The Duke of Edinburgh Award has to be a highlight – it was a real challenge for me but I did it.”
